September 21, 2001
This weekly feature of the Online Exchange
is committed to helping parents take back quality time and
devote it more fully to spending it with their children. Here is where you can start to take a Time Out from the TV, computer, housework, and bills. It only takes a few minutes to do fun and memorable things
with your children and we will lend a hand each week to get you started. Tune in here for encouragement, fun and easy things to do,
and other tidbits, all geared just for you and your precious ones.

the Week
The Great "Time Out"
Showdown! Enter and WIN!
It has been 2 months since the start of publication of this feature and
we have been having a ball bringing you the Time Out's each week. I hope
that you are benefiting from it as well, and also from spending more
time with your family.
This week we would like to hear from you. We are running our first Time
Out Contest to get you involved. You will need to email
me, telling me about you and your children and a cool, fun activity
or craft that you have done. Please put in the subject line "The
Great Time Out Showdown!" If we pick your suggestion, we will run
it as a Time Out for the Week, and also send you a Fun Pack, full of fun
things to make and do. (Don't forget to include the ages of your
children, so that we can make the Fun Pack age appropriate if we pick
you. Also include your mailing address.)
So, get the kids, put on your thinking caps, and get busy!
We hope to run more Time Out Contests in the future, so keep your eyes
open.
While you are working diligently on
that, here's a fun snack to make:
Choco-Nut Frozen Banana
What you need:
1 cup (8ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
1 cup chopped peanuts
4 firm ripe bananas, peeled and cut diagonally in half.
8 wooden craft sticks
What you do:
Line a baking sheet with waxed paper.
Melt 1/2 cup of chips following package instructions. Stir in 1 1/2 teaspoons of the oil. Scrape into a shallow plate with a rim.
Spread 1/2 the nuts on a piece of waxed paper.
Insert a craft stick into cut end of 4 banana halves. Roll bananas in melted chocolate (use a spoon to help), then roll in chopped nuts. Place on prepared sheet.
Repeat with remaining ingredients. Freeze at least 1 hour before serving or before placing in an airtight container and freezing up to 1 month.

~ Just for You
The Best Medicine
Feeling stressed lately? Naa, why would you?
It's not like you run a family or anything.
Well, for the odd chance that you MIGHT be just a LITTLE bit stressed
out, try this.
Take some time just for you to sit back and watch a funny movie. You can
literally laugh the stress away!
Even just putting on a happy face can help you get into a better mood.
Laughing and smiling both cause changes in your body chemistry that will
make you feel less stressed and happier, even if it just isn't so.
So run down to the video store and rent you a copy of a Mel Brooks movie
or something comparable, and remember that you are WANTING to laugh, so
don't take it seriously, or you will miss the point.
